What’s the lens you are seeing through?

What’s the lens you are seeing through?

Have you noticed that mostly in life we see things the way we see things? And when we see things, we aren’t just seeing something but we are seeing the truth of something. Or so we think. 🤔

Everyone sees things through their own lens, like a camera lens. 📸 When we look through our lens, everything we see—every situation, every person, etc.—appears like the truth of what is. Most people never consider that it’s just what is through their lens but it’s not exactly what it is, and that someone else might see something completely different than what they see.

That’s right—we regularly relate to what we are seeing as the truth in life. “I see it this way, and therefore, it’s the way it is. It cannot be any other way.” This is the reason we often argue with other people or even suffer in life. It comes down to only seeing life in one way and relating to it like it’s the truth.

I’d like to give you a new perspective that will offer you a lot of freedom! What if what you are seeing and the lens you are looking through is only one possible way to see something? That’s right. What is happening could be viewed from multiple perspectives, and they can all be absolutely true. Sometimes it can be difficult to see other people’s points of view because they don’t match ours and can be so far from what we see is true that we can’t get our minds around it.

Let me give you a simple example of this.

A few months ago, I went to my hairdresser. I had a problem because I had fried my hair using a curling iron in another country and didn’t realize I was using the wrong power converter, so my iron was too hot. My hair was a mess. 😞 When my hairdresser looked at it, she said, “The only way to fix split ends like this is to cut them.” Well, the problem was that they were at the top of my head, and I didn’t want to have short pieces of hair at the top of my head. After 20 minutes of going back and forth, I gave in and let her cut some pieces. You should know that I regret that decision because my hair… these short hairs… drive me crazy. I’m sure that if I spoke with 10 other hairdressers, at least 3 would have had other ideas for how to fix the problem. (Put a product on it that seals the cuticles, etc.) And, there was no convincing my lady that there was another way. She was taught in school that the only way to fix split ends is to cut them, or they keep splitting.

Now, you may even agree with her on this. But notice, your mind either needs to agree or disagree with everything. What if there was another way to handle this situation so that my hair could be healthy again and I was empowered? My belief is that there is always another way to look at a situation.

🤔 Think of a situation you are currently in that frustrates you or a person in your life that is hard to deal with.

What are you seeing through your lens? Where are you stuck on your point of view instead of listening to another person’s point of view as valid?

When you can see through your lens and accept that someone else sees something different through their lens, then you can have a conversation that moves worlds and changes lives!

When you can only see through your lens like it’s the truth, worlds collide and stop.

What will you choose? 🤔
